Baby baby baby

The final note worthy story in the newspaper was about Kate Middleton's pregnancy.

2012 was definitely the year for Britain, with the Jubilee Olympics and the announcing of Kates pregnancy.
With all the success of keep calm and carry on merchandise sparked by The Kings Speech there's no doubt the royal baby will have a direct influence on British and potentially global childrenswear, in particular mothers buying baby clothes from the same brands Kate will be dressing her little one in.

Multi cultural street style

The next stories we looked at were to do with culture and tourism.

One article was looking at the young immigrants in Britain and their journeys growing up in the city of London.

I definitely think multiculturalism has a huge effect on fashion. So many different cultures have different customs and ways of dressing that will definitely have an effect on street style dependant on where you are.

Here are a few images from my Pinterest to display the kind of street style different cultures have brought to London

Another headline was about Stelios, founder of Easyjet, intending on opening budget hotels in Africa. This would mean the kind of exotic holidays that were once only available to those with deep pockets will now be available to budget travellers who will most likely bring fashion and culture of these African countries home with them.

Green Day

Green energy developments were being discussed in the Independent. I believe it could influence fashion design and the way clothes are manufactured. With the climate constantly changing due to environmental damage there could be a rise in eco-friendly clothing brands and a decrease in the demand for fast fashion due to its wastefulness.

Cyprus Crisis and how it will affect the fashion industry

In todays lessons we were going through broadsheet newspapers looking at news stories that stood out to us that we thought could effect society enough to make an impact on fashion.

The first story that caught my attention was about the debt crisis in Cyprus.

The article explained that Cyprus' economy was unstable and the European Central Bank (ECB) was threatening to pull out of being involved with Cyprus altogether leaving it to sort out its own debt.

This is a drastic measure and if they did go forward with it, it could have a knock on effect on Britain. Britain has a large amount of debt and if it was to get as bad as Cyprus nothing would be stopping the ECB from pulling out from Britain as well, leaving the economy shattered. This would affect the retail industry amongst every other industry. The middle market retailers would be affected most as they are always the ones who suffer in recessions and times of austerity.
