My Exotic Print Trend Board

This is my finalised Exotic Print Trend Board.

I started off with far too many images on the page and didn't feel happy with my work so scrapped it and started again.

I took inspiration from one of the boards I'd looked at earlier and decided to use the cutout backgrounds behind the models to add accent colours to the board and highlight certain looks.

I feel the board reads well and is a clear creative representation of the Exotic Print trend.

The art piece in the background contains all the key colours for the trend so I made sure to sample colours from there when creating backgrounds for the images so it made sense visually.

I feel I have incorporated every aspect of the trend I was hoping to hit on apart from nails which I suppose is okay because they key colours and patterns are shown so that can easily be translated into nail art as seen in the nail blogs I've been following.

In terms of print I have examples of print with South American influence, African and a digital kaleidoscopic look. Frida Kahlo and the carnival dancer are to show the cultural aspects that are related to this trend.

Headwear is a key feature in this trend so I made sure to include an image of a headscarf and an image where Frida is donning flowers in her braids.

I had a lot of fun creating this board in Photoshop. I didn't think I was capable of producing something like this as I'm not the most confident when it comes to anything Mac related so I'm very pleased with the result.

My Androgyny Trend Board

This is my final trend board for Androgyny.

I tried a few ways of laying it out but I realised minimalism wouldn't really get the message through of why this is a relevant trend in 2014.

I've set the colour palette as neon, shown by the art pieces and interior designs in the board.

I feel that I have covered every aspect of the trend with the images I provided. There is a protest sign displaying the turbulence we've had in 2013 with gay marriage protests. Pussy Riot images to show the anti-establishment culture that is rising up fighting against the rules of society.

I like that I've stayed true to my idea and not had any black and white images on the board, I edited the colouring of the ones that were originally black and white in Photoshop to give more of a life like feel to the otherwise cold images.

Grace Jones, Tilda Swinton, David Bowie and Omahyra Mota are all androgynous icons so it was important to include them in the board.

Overall I am satisfied with the board but I worry that it wont translate clearly to someone who didnt already know the board name especially because I didnt use any text.

Androgynous models

Another look at the androgynous models of the 21st century.

More trend board inspiration

I've been all over Google images and Polyvore looking for trend boards that are directly related to my trends.

ANDROGYNY

I like this board because of its simplicity however i feel it looks a bit unprofessional. I'm going for a kind of scruffy look but it just seems a bit boring to me.

This board has to be my favourite of them all. Its very simple and focuses on a few key elements of the trend, I also really like the graph paper background. I think I will be using this style for my trend board.

This board is quite nice but there's too much black and white and i really dont want to do the typical black and white theme because I'm doing androgyny.

This one is also quite cool and I like the use of colour.

Cool colours and David Bowie!

EXOTIC PRINT

This isnt exactly related to my theme but they bold prints caught my eye. I love the way the models are cut out and pasted on top of other images with a background behind them. I will be using that kind of style in my trend board.

This board is beautiful. Its creative and concise. Again the circles are highlighting key features of the trend which I think it really interesting, I'm not sure I would be able to whittle down all the images and information I'm trying to give in my trend board to just four images.

I like this one but its a bit too whats hot whats not magazine feature for me.

Trend Board Inspiration

So its time to get serious about my trend boards and think of how I'm going to lay them out and what they will look like.

Here are a few trend boards / mood boards I've been looking at that have the kind of layout and creativity I admire.

I like the use of circles to highlight key features of the clothing

I like the layout of this board. Its clean and simple with the focus solely on the clothing and not the models.

This board is quite interesting. I like the idea of isolating the subjects from the background and using accessories to tie the looks all together

This board is very easy to read. Clean and organised. Maybe I will do something like this for my Androgyny board but I'm not sure as I dont want it to seem to organised.
